The Zanzibar is a hand-crocheted sling bag cum clutch, designed around a specially developed chevron crochet pattern.
The bag was created by pushing crochet beyond straight-line stitches, allowing the surface to move in a wave-like rhythm that slowly forms into a bold zig-zag chevron. This pattern is inspired by the natural movement of Zanzibar leaves, which also gives the bag its name.
The surface moves through an ombre metallic palette — from gold to pani/vegas gold to silver. The gold section is detailed with sequins and tiny ghungroos, the pani gold section is adorned with sequins and beads, and the silver section is finished with a soft sequin shimmer.
One of the most distinctive details of The Zanzibar is its sharp zig-zag flap edge. Achieving this pointed and stable shape in crochet took several rounds of trial and refinement, making the bag as much about structure as it is about surface detail.
