The Mirchi Potli is a hand-crocheted chilli-shaped statement bag inspired by one of the most unmistakable elements of Indian food and culture — the mirchi.
After our Met Gala moment, we wanted to look closer to home and create bags inspired by objects that feel quintessentially Indian. That journey led us to the Indian spice trail, and eventually to the chilli — bold, familiar and full of character.
Hand-crocheted in red and green nylon, the Mirchi Potli is shaped entirely through carefully calculated stitches. The number of stitches changes with every round to create the chilli’s fuller upper body, tapered silhouette and distinctive curved tip. Each sequin is individually crocheted into the structure of the bag rather than added afterwards, giving the surface its rich, fiery shimmer.
The bag is padded and lined to maintain its sculptural three-dimensional form, while customised drawstrings are finished with approximately eight miniature hand-crocheted mirchis, each detailed with sequins and accented with glass beads.
Designed as a unisex statement bag, the Mirchi Potli isn’t made for one particular occasion. Carry it with a sari, tailoring, denim, a dress or whatever feels like you. Its wrist handle makes it easy to carry, while the interior holds your essentials — a lipstick, cards, cash and a small perfume bottle.
Each Mirchi Potli takes almost two weeks to create and is handmade in India in small batches.
